Where daily life follows seasons, land, and tradition
Life in Grottole
This site is shaped by our personal experience living in Grottole, an ancient hilltop village in Southern Italy where daily life continues through tradition, season, and community. We come from very different parts of the world — the United States and Ukraine — yet were drawn to the same qualities of life that make this place feel timeless and deeply human. What you’ll find here is not a guide, but a lived perspective of what everyday village life actually feels like.
If something about this way of living speaks to you, we hope these stories encourage you to spend real time here — not just passing through, but staying long enough to settle in, even briefly. Grottole is best understood slowly, over weeks rather than days. For slow travelers, sabbaticals, and longer stays in an authentic Italian village.

Live the Village, Don’t Just Visit
Grottole is a place understood through ordinary days.
Morning walks for bread, greetings exchanged in the piazza, conversations at the bar, and routines that gradually become familiar.
Life here follows a slower, land-shaped rhythm — marked by seasons, local harvests, and the quiet continuity of village life.
We care for a small collection of restored homes intended for longer stays — not simply places to sleep, but spaces designed to let you settle naturally into these daily patterns.
Photos on this site are my own, with the exception of Grottole City views, which were taken by Sergio Manicone who is a talented Grottole photographer. Above photo of home is an AI generated version of what we envision our home looking like.
